We love toys but can we tell you a secret? Our favorite part is making space for families to sing, dance, laugh, learn, and play with their neighbors!

 

The Rec Room

The Rec Room (Reading! Entertainment! Craft!) is a 600 sq ft community space in the back of our shop. We host music shows, story times, puppet shows, creative workshops, and more on our GIANT TV STAGE!

Shows can happen inside the fully-enclosed TV (screen 6x7, stage 6x8) or on the stage in front (3x8). (There's even a green room behind the stage for storage and hiding!) You're welcome to use our amp and mic, bring your own, or go acoustic.

The space has 6 built-in benches, each with a fold down table. During shows we keep the tables up but durning craft and informative events the tables can be lowered. 

 

Expectations

We ask everyone who uses our space to arrive with ample time to check in/set up and to stick around afterwards and help clean any leftover materials. We're usually happy to provide supplies and materials for events, we just need a list of what you need! 

We will advertise your show on our Instagram and Facebook pages and ask that you please do the same! 

COVID-19 Safety: To protect our youngest visitors, H+J limits event capacity and requires all visitors 3+ to wear masks. Performers must be fully vaccinated + boosted. We may ask you to take a rapid test before interactive shows or events. Performers don’t need to wear masks if they’re staying within the TV, but are asked to wear them if they'll be interacting with the audience.

Payment + Bookings 

We strive to offer events that are accessible to all. Our events are typically by-donation with all proceeds going to the performer. We also offer a paid ticket option with a sliding scale fee for space upkeep.

To keep our most vulnerable visitors safe, we limit capacity for all events (up to 30) and book by bench (max 5 butts). If you'd like to see more audience and do double-shows (e.g. 10am + 11am), we're all for it!
